Research tools

Some ways to make academic research more sustainable in terms of tools, practices and technology. This is related to Sustainability in linguistics.

• Carbon neutral research - every fieldwork should be justified
• Open source software - adding to the transparency of the process
• Ethical and responsible handling of sensitive data during documentation (e.g. avoiding using Google docs or similar)
• Being dependent on a tool you do not control is an unsustainable practice (e.g. dependence on tools by capitalistic companies such as Microsoft, Google, Zoom, Twitter etc...)
